About Salt Spring Coffee Co.

Our Story

We are BC’s original organic and fair trade coffee company.

Salt Spring Coffee Company began in 1996 with a commitment to leadership in sustainable business practices and to buying only organic & fair trade coffee beans. 100% organic means no chemical pesticides or herbicides have been used in the growing process. It also means good soil management, making for a healthy planet. The Canadian certified organic logo on our products assures you that all organic practices have been followed.

We go direct.
We believe a better way is Fair to Farmer Direct™. That means paying above the fair trade base price, and working with our farmers to raise the quality of their coffees year after year. Our Coffees of Distinction™ award program advances the investment potential of individual farmers, and provides us with the very best coffee available from our co-ops. These “Micro-Lot” coffees are limited in quantity, so they are currently only available through our web site and select cafés.

We love the planet.
Even great coffee doesn’t have to come at the expense of the planet. In 2007, we became one of the world's first carbon neutral coffee companies; a commitment recognized by the David Suzuki Foundation.

We purchase Renewable Energy Credits to balance our electricity use, and we offset our greenhouse gas emissions with high-quality offsets. We also track and minimize our greenhouse gas emissions under the guidance of Climate Smart .™

We keep setting the bar higher.
We are proud of what we have achieved, but we know excellence and complacency do not make good bedfellows. We judge our success by the Triple Bottom Line: for people, the planet, and profit. Our valued customers expect the best from us, and they inspire us to continue doing, and being our best.
