About Growing City

Our Story

Discover Growing City a company passionate about waste reduction, community and a green lifestyle.

The idea for Growing City was sparked after spending a week in a cabin on Desolation Sound.

Composting was mandatory on the island and we experienced first hand how powerful composting can be in reducing overall waste. When we returned to our work lives we were shocked to see how much organic waste ended up in our office trash. That combined with our inability to compost at our apartments showed us that something needed to be done to address the needs of urban composters.

The seeds of Growing City were sown!

Although the road is rocky at times, the freedom that comes with being an entrepreneur is well worth it. Friends since grade 9, we have always dreamed of working together - being entrepreneurs has not only made that possible but has also allowed us to build a company infused with the values we share: waste reduction, urban sustainability, healthy diet, active living and community involvement.

We can't wait to work with you!

All the best,

Lisa von Sturmer and Andrew Sutherland
